Bay Rum Essential Oil DIY Deodorant

Who doesn’t love the smell of bay rum? That rich warm spiciness is intoxicating! That’s why “Old Spice” products are so popular for men- they’re formulated to smell like good-old natural bay rum essential oil. If you are looking for more natural solutions for your life, you have probably already decided to avoid a lot of classic over-the-counter beauty products. Deodorant is one of the worst culprits. Many people are becoming wise to the dangers that could be associated with smothering your skin in aluminum a few times a day. Plus, with all the chemical additives and fake scents, those store-bought spicy deodorants just aren’t cutting it.

That’s why you should try making your own deodorant. It’s much easier than you’d ever expect and contains ingredients that are even safe enough to eat. It seems strange at first because you apply the homemade deodorant more like a lotion than a regular deodorant stick. You will be amazed at the results. You won’t notice a stinky armpit smell. Instead, you’ll only smell that subtle spicy goodness of real bay rum essential oil.

Craft a Bay Rum Essential Oil Deodorant

Here’s how to craft a DIY Bay Rum Essential Oil Deodorant (inspired by How About Orange and Wellness Mama):

4 tbsp coconut oil
4 tbsp baking soda
3 tbsp arrowroot powder
3 tbsp Shea butter
10 drops Bay Rum Essential Oil
Glass jar for mixing and storing
Metal spoon for stirring
Empty deodorant container (optional)

Where you mix your oils (including your bay rum essential oil) will depend on how you wish to store your deodorant. If you are just going to store it in a glass jar, then go ahead and mix the coconut oil and Shea butter in that jar. If you want to put the deodorant into an empty deodorant container for easier dispensing, then you’ll need a glass bowl to mix it up in first. In any case, add the coconut oil and Shea butter into the mixing container. Submerge in hot water until the oils begin to melt. Stir well to combine.

Remove from water.

Mix in the baking soda and arrowroot powder. These are the magic ingredients that will help to absorb moisture from your armpits.
Mix very well until it reaches a smooth consistency. Add your Bay Rum essential oil and mix well one last time.
If you mixed it in the glass jar, then it’s finished and ready for use. It works best if you let it cool first. If you prefer it to have a very firm texture, you may wish to store it in the fridge.

If you want to put it in the empty deodorant container, you must let the mixture cool first. Once it is completely cool, you can fill your dispenser using a spoon. Be advised that your bay rum essential oil deodorant will be much less firm than normal deodorant.

To apply your Bay Rum Essential Oil Deodorant, simply use your hands or your deodorant stick dispenser to apply a small amount to each armpit. Rub in well so that it can absorb. Wait a minute or two before putting on your shirt to make sure it all gets absorbed. Apply as often as needed.
